The Autism Model School…

…was one of the first community schools established in Ohio, in 1998. The original planning committee consisted of ten diverse individuals with one thing in common: a child with autism. Today, The Autism Model School accepts students ages 5-22 who are citizens of Ohio. The school is ungraded and groups students according to their abilities.

Employment and ASD

The following is a message from Chris Filler, Program Director at OCALI Lifespan Transitions Center:

Hello Everyone

I am asking for your help to disseminate and promote the survey linked below. It is the ASD Employment Survey, developed by OCALI’s Lifespan Transitions Center.

We know employment outcomes for people on the autism spectrum, as a whole, are poor. So many are unemployed or underemployed; many with only a few hours of work, in sheltered work environments, or in situations that don’t highlight their skills and talents. Research provides a basis for understanding the types of experiences, supports, services, and skills that are needed for success, however, we need to know more. We want to hear from Ohioans.

Responses will provide OCALI with data essential to planning for the development of resources targeted to meet the needs of people on the autism spectrum and improve their chances of obtaining community based employment options that match their skills, interests, and strengths.

Our target respondents are Ohioans with ASD who have completed or exited high school, or families of individuals with ASD who have completed or exited high school. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

We ask that you take the time to complete the survey if you are in the target audience. We also ask that you forward this email to appropriate parties. Any mention on social media, web pages, newsletters would be appreciated to help spread the word and increase participation! Thank you for your time.
